Hello, you've arrived at
www.irritable-bowel-syndromes.com
Facts about
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
This is a simple website dealing mainly with health problems of which either I or a family member or close friend have first hand knowledge. You will see that not all of the subjects are directly medical - seriously debilitating health problems can be brought on by stress and worry, so I have included subjects which I know can cause a lot of anxiety confusion and distress - I have also included websites belonging to my kids - blatant nepotism I know!
Hi, my name is Alan
Mannering, I come from
Birmingham
in the
West
Midlands
of the
UK
,
and I suffered for many years with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)..... nobody actually knew it as that back in the 1950's - it was euphemistically called 'a delicate stomach'. When I was in my mid fifties, I was diagnosed as having haemochromatosis - a disease that was virtually unknown when I was a youth. It now seems possible that this condition may have caused the Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which plagued me for many, many years. I'd like to blame the IBS for my long and dangerous affair with alcohol into the bargain, but that's probably a bridge too far. Well, my ex wife seems to think it is!
When I wrote my website about Haemochromatosis ten years ago I was the only person out there who was throwing any light on the subject and many people have written to me over the years thanking me for the plain and simple way I have presented the facts. So, I'm using the same format to give you the benefit of my first hand knowledge on IBS, deafness, macular degeneration (sight loss) and alcoholism. My ex wife,Dianne has been wanting to 'give people the low-down' on breast reduction after having undergone the operation herself about fifteen years ago, so at last she's found a platform. All of the conditions discussed on this site and any recommendations are personal to me or members of my family and close friends. I hope you will find it as interesting and informative as visitors have found my original website about Haemochromatosis

Don't Die Young - An Anatomist's guide to Your Organs & Your Health
by Alice Roberts
Highly recommended - this detailed and beautifully illustrated book is great for anyone who is interested in health and anatomy. It is clear, authorative and witty and it tells you what will happen to your organs such as liver, brain, eyes and skin if you mistreat them
Healing Sun
by Richard Hobday
This is a "must read book" if you want to be healthy because it brings the balance back into the unbalanced argument that the sun is dangerous to our health and should be avoided or blocked at all costs. Lack of sunlight can increase your chances of getting heart disease, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, decaying teeth, psoriasis and cancer (breast, colon, ovarian and prostate). Sun bathing safely allows your body to generate vitamin D - crucial to a healthy immune system
The 10 Secrets of 100%
Healthy
People
by Patrick Holford Being healthy isn't totally an attitude of mind and a doctor once told a friend of mine who was being a little over smug about how well she was keeping as she advanced into late middle age 'thank your genes, my dear, thank your genes'. But you can help your genes by being positive.
